V Isla cristina festival
3 – 8 AUGUST 2021
OCEAN OF MUSIC
Dear friends of the Isla Cristina Festival,
We are extremely pleased to be able to announce the 5th edition of the Isla Cristina Festival, which has become a prestigious cultural reference in the summers of the Costa de la Luz in Huelva.
The programmed activities will take place between August 3rd and 8th, which includes five concerts, the award giving of the 2021 Isla Cristina Festival Award, the Festival en el Barrio, and the Preambulos, concert introductions, in which the artists themselves and specialists in the arts, music and history introduce us to the data and circumstances that surround the programme of each night.
The sadly failed international commemoration of the Beethoven Year 2020 is moved to the year 2021, and the Isla Cristina International Music Festival is including works by the German composer as well as the special commission of a composition inspired by the Beethovian work.
The Ensemble Insula will again be the resident ensemble of the Festival, made out of renowned international soloists: Alexander Sitkovetsky, Matjaz Bogataj, Danka Nikolic, Valentin Radutiu and Per Rundberg, who will take part in two concerts, on August 3rd and 5th.
The opening night of the 5th Isla Cristina International Music Festival will present the first of these concerts, called ¡Viva el Clasicismo! dedicated to classicism, with works by Mozart, Haydn, the impressive Beethoven’s Razumovsky Quartet number 3 and the premiere of the Maria José Arena´s work “Die letzte Hand klopft an die Wand”.
The second concert of the Ensemble Insula focuses on the music of Romanticism with an attractive programme that includes the famous Dvorak American Quartet and the original version of Frederic Chopin’s second piano concerto, written for string quartet and piano.
The usual concert dedicated to young Andalusian talents will be presented by two young and exceptional artists from Huelva, living abroad, the saxophonist Mari Ángeles del Valle and the violinist Ángeles Salas, who will offer an interesting and atypical programme. They will be accompanied by the pianist Daniel Barbosa and the concert will benefit the Social Dining Room of Isla Cristina “Manos Solidarias”
With the Festival en el Barrio, once again, the arts and music want to be an important vehicle for social action, as there are so many good examples around the world. The sociocultural and pedagogical event is included within the macro social project ERACIS, and will have as protagonists the members of the Cuarteto Quiroga.
The closing concert of the V FIMIC
The closing concert of the V FIMICwill have the great honor to host once again the Cuarteto Quiroga, 2018 National Music Prize, one of the most consolidated and recognized Spanish groups on the international scene today, with regular presence in the most important festivals and halls in the world. They will offer a strong programme that will cover the entire musical twentieth century by the hand of some of its most representative composers: Joaquín Turina, Dmitri Shostakóvich, Alberto Ginastera and Astor Piazzolla, commemorating this year the centenary of the birth of the latter author.
During the closing concert, the Isla Cristina 2021 Festival Prize will be given, which every year is awarded to entities or personalities linked to the world of classical music and arts.
Come and enjoy!
